Q: What section should I enroll my child in?

A: If your child reaches the lowest age in the section before December 31 of the current scouting year they can enter the age appropriate section below.

Beavers:         Ages 5-7
Cubs:               Ages 8-10
Scouts:            Ages 11-14
Venturers:      Ages 14-18
Rovers:           Ages 18-26

For example your child is four, but their birthday is October 15, they can therefore enter Beavers.

Q: What safety measures are in place for my child?

A: All leaders have to have a Police Record Check done before they can be come a leader.  The leaders go through a training course called Woodbadge 1, which trains them in child safety, leader safety, scouting principles, and section appropriate activities. The section leads generally have what is called Woodbadge 2 training, which is the advanced training for the section.

Cubs and up can earn knife, axe, and fire permits, which they receive after training and them demonstrating back safe usage, however incidents do happen even when directly supervised. Offsite activities all have to have a emergency preparedness forms prepared and approved prior to activity, in order to mitigate any safety concerns.

Q: What does my child need to pack for camp?

A: Each of the sections have a packing list for outdoor overnight activities. Sunscreen, water, toiletries and weather appropriate clothing, sleep wear, and sleeping bag.

Please let your child do their own packing as they need to know what they have along and where to find it. When sleeping outdoors, sleeping bags should be rated for the activity and camp location.

Discuss with the leaders as to what is appropriate.
